A Message from our President - Becky Cox
The Texas Fragile X Association (TXFX) is proud to announce that we have become a “Community Partner” for the National Fragile X Foundation (NFXF).
To provide you with a little history, TXFX has been a support group in North Texas since 2006 supporting local fragile x families. From the beginning we have worked closely with and been supported by NFXF. In 2009, we became part of the NFXF “LINKS” Network of parent support groups and we were listed on National's website as a local contact for parents. In January of 2014, NFXF changed their model to the “CSN” Community Support Network and we automatically became a member. We supported them locally and they supported us nationally.
Last year, National changed to a new model of “Chapters” in which they offered the support groups around the country the opportunity to become a Chapter of the National Fragile X Foundation (NFXF). In order to become a Chapter with NFXF, we would contractually agree to certain stipulations regarding fund raising, commitment, branding, etc. and in return National would provide support in several ways including stipends, insurance, etc. For a small group this is an excellent opportunity. For us, it was not an easy decision as we are a well established group with our own 501c3. Instead of becoming a “Chapter” we became a “Community Partner”. This doesn’t have as many benefits for us, but it also does not have as many stipulations for us to meet.
TXFX has a board of 4 to 5 directors and it is all volunteer. In addition to our commitment as fragile x parents and responsibilities to our families and jobs, we dedicate a portion of our lives to the TXFX mission and we simply didn’t think we could take on more at this time. We look forward to continuing our supportive and collaborative relationship with the National Fragile X Foundation and many more years of service to our local fragile x community.
Sincerely,
Becky Cox, President
